Remembrance Day 2018

Thousands attended the Remembrance Day ceremony at the National War Memorial in St. John’s November 11, 2018 to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice as well as those who returned home wounded. We also remember those who continue to serve.

Halloween 2018

Their Honours welcomed ghosts, goblins, rock stars, astronauts, princesses, dark angels, fairy tale characters, dogs and wonderful parents to Government House on October 31, 2018.

2018 Poppy Campaign

Her Honour was pleased to participate in the Poppy/Remembrance Proclamation signing at Government House on October 26, 2018. She received the symbolic first poppy from President Berkley Lawrence, Royal Canadian Legion Newfoundland and Labrador Command.

Canadian Citizenship Ceremony

Her Honour presided over a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony in St. Johns on October 12. 2018, where 29 people from 16 different countries became Canadian citizens.

Heart Garden Sod Turning Ceremony

Her Honour thanked all who participated in the sod-turning for a Heart Garden on the grounds of Government House on October 19, 2018. Heart Gardens honour those lost to the residential school system, residential school survivors, and their families, as well as the legacy of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

RNC Police Studies Graduation Parade

As Honorary Chief of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, Her Honour was delighted to participate in the RNC Police Studies Graduation Parade on October 20, 2018 that saw 15 new cadets graduate and become constables in the oldest police service in North America.

Visit to The Creative Sewing Atelier

On October 16, 2018 Her Honour enjoyed the opportunity to visit The Creative Sewing Atelier made possible by the late Kathryn (Kassie) Brown whose request it was that her eight commercial sewing machines and supplies be donated to help new Canadians.
