A Statement from The Honourable Joan Marie Aylward, O.N.L., Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador on the First Anniversary of Coronation Day

One year ago, His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen Consort celebrated their Coronation Day. As The King’s representative in Newfoundland and Labrador, it is my honour to offer sincere congratulations to The King and The Queen Consort on this first anniversary of the Coronation, and to join with Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in offering very best wishes as they continue their reign.

Today, as we mark this anniversary, we reflect not just on their reign, but also on their lifetime of service and duty and their ongoing commitment to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and indeed the entire Commonwealth.

We also recall their Official Visits to our province, most recently in 2022 to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It is my hope that we will again have an opportunity to welcome Their Majesties on a visit to Canada, now as King and Queen Consort.

Canada is marking this Coronation anniversary with the issuance of a new medal. The King Charles III Coronation Medal was first awarded today by the Governor General of Canada to Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners. It was my humble honour to receive one of the first medals in a virtual ceremony held earlier today. Throughout the course of this anniversary year, the achievements of exceptional Canadians from coast to coast to coast will be recognized with this distinguished award.

Tonight, we will light Government House in emerald green in celebration of the first anniversary of Their Majesties’ Coronation.

God Save The King.

Her Honour the Lieutenant Governor holding the King Charles III Coronation Medal
