A Statement from The Honourable Joan Marie Aylward, O.N.L., Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador on the passing of The Right Honourable Martin Brian Mulroney, P.C., C.C., G.O.Q.

Carl and I join Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in expressing condolences to the family and loved ones of the 18th Prime Minister of Canada, The Right Honourable Martin Brian Mulroney, P.C., C.C., G.O.Q, following his passing on February 29th, 2024.

Throughout his 84-year life, Mr. Mulroney worked tirelessly to enhance the lives of Canadians from every corner of the country, including here in Newfoundland and Labrador. His unwavering commitment to safeguarding human rights and protecting the environment is a vital part of the Canadian identity, and it is something that will always be remembered.

The flags at Government House have been lowered to half-mast to commemorate his service to our country.
