In Newfoundland and Labrador, July begins with a day devoted to both remembrance and celebration. The morning is Memorial Day, and Their Honours attended the National War Memorial for a ceremony not only of remembrance, but one marking the 100th anniversary of the Memorial, and the reinterment of our Unknown Soldier, who has come home after so long away. In his anonymity, he could be any of those lost in the First World War, and so he rests there to represent them all.

The afternoon of July 1 means celebrating the country Newfoundland and Labrador joined 75 years ago. Their Honours joined Governor General Mary Simon at Alderwood Estates in Witless Bay to celebrate Canada with the residents and staff.

The following night, Their Honours attended a reception with the Governor General at which a number of remarkable Newfoundlanders and Labradorians were invested into the Order of Canada.

Recipients of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador are among our best, and set an example for others to follow.
In November Their Honours hosted an award ceremony for the College of the North Atlantic, and on behalf of the Governor General, awarded exceptional students the Governor General Academic Medal.
