Sunday, March 15, 2020
St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador

The Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, The Honourable Judy M. Foote, is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and following the advice of provincial and federal health authorities. Newfoundland and Labrador identified the first presumptive coronavirus case in the province on March 14th, 2020.

As of today, all public events scheduled at Government House are postponed indefinitely. All tours of Government House are cancelled until further notice. Government House staff will be available to re-schedule the events and tours.

Their Honours have curtailed air travel, outside and inside the province, while concern about COVID-19 exists.

As is the practice, the public are encouraged to continue to enjoy the grounds of Government House while following current advice by medical professionals on social distancing.

The Lieutenant Governor expresses sincere appreciation to the province’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, her staff and all front-line health care workers.

Thank you to federal and provincial public health officials for providing frequent evidence-based updates on the recommended response to COVID-19.

It is imperative everyone adhere to the guidance of public health officials with respect to hygiene, social distancing, and travel.

Thank you to Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Health and Community Services for providing the most up to date information for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians at https://www.gov.nl.ca/covid-19.
